If you have keen interest for design and real estate, a job in home staging and redesign may be a suitable match for you. Basically, you will be preparing homes for buyers to look at and/or giving advice to your clients on how to prepare their homes. Home staging is very different from interior decorating. Interior decorating helps your client achieve their vision with color and style. As for home staging, you want to make a home look as impersonal as possible as this is a known way of encouraging buyers.
In fact, not many people find a home that looks like it is still being lived in appealing to purchase. After seeing your personal effects, your decor choices and your furniture, the buyer may not like what they see, thus clouding their impression of your home. But by redesigning, it is possible to transform a well-lived in home to a show house. This involves both expertise of the exterior and interior designers. It is made easier if you have already relocated to a new home, but it is still possible if you are living in the home while trying to sell it.
If you are keen in the possibilities of home staging as a job opportunity, the first thing you need to get educated on the subject. Clients' priority is to look into the credentials of home stagers they are hiring. With accumulated experiences, it is crucial to have a portfolio with before and after photos, testimonials from previous clients and perhaps even a few references. This can be hard when you first begin, but once you get a hang of it, your career can grow if you are a skilful and are in the right opportune time and place.
Take for example, in some cities home staging and redesign is not viable career choice due to the lack of demand for the service. Whereas for the other areas, home stagers are in high demand. Thus, it is important to do some research in your area before you decide to enter this line of work. On the other hand, if there is little demand for home stagers in your locality, you can consider getting a Realtor license and or study the art of staging on the side so you can advise your clients on the best way to prepare their home for sale. This can not only be profitable for them, but also for the selling agent.
